Kudumulu / Undrallu are offered as Naivedyam for Lord Ganesha on Ganesha Chaturthi Festival.
Ingredients:
Coconut oil - 1 tablespoon
Chana dal (split bengal gram) - 1/2 teaspoon
Urad dal (split black gram) - 1/2 teaspoon
Mustard seeds - 1/4 teaspoon
Cumin seeds - 1/4 teaspoon
Curry leaf (finely chopped) - 2 sprigs
Water - 4 cups
Salt - as required
Brown rice rava - 2 cups
Green chilies (coarsely ground) - 6
Shredded fresh coconut - 1 cup
Method:
Heat oil in a thick bottomed vessel. Add chana dal and urad dal. After they turn slightly golden brown, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Once they start spluttering add chopped curry leaves. Add water and salt. Once the water starts boiling, add brown rice rava. Cover the vessel with the lid and cook until the rava becomes soft. Transfer the cooked rava mixture into a broad plate and let it cool. Add shredded fresh coconut and coarsely ground green chilies and mix well. Apply little water to your palms and form the rava mixture into big lemon sized balls. Transfer the prepared Kudumulu into a steamer and steam for 15 minutes. Serve hot or warm.
Note:
While cooking the rava mixture, it sticks to the bottom of the vessel, which is normal. After transferring the cooked rava mixture into a broad plate, scrape out the roasted rava mixture which has sticked to the bottom. It will be good to eat.
