Ingredients:
Breadfruit - 1/2 kg
Onions (thinly slices) - 4
Salt - as required
Chili powder - 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
Coconut oil - 5 tablespoons
Chana dal (split Bengal gram) - 1/2 teaspoon
Urad dal (split Black gram) - 1/2 teaspoon
Mustard seeds - 1/4 teaspoon
Cumin seeds - 1/4 teaspoon
Curry leaf - 1 sprig
Method:
Apply some coconut oil to your palms, knife and cutting board. Peel the breadfruit with the knife. Then, wash it and cut it into wedges. Remove the core and chop the breadfruit into medium sized pieces. Put the chopped breadfruit into a vessel and pour enough water to submerge them. Boil until the breadfruit is cooked. The breadfruit takes very little time to cook. Do not let it become too soft. After cooking, drain the water from the breadfruit. Heat oil in a pan and add chana dal and urad dal. Once they turn slightly golden brown, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Once they start spluttering, add curry leaves. Then add sliced onion and cooked breadfruit. Fry until the onion turns golden brown. Keep sauteing occasionally. Add salt, chili powder and turmeric powder. Mix gently until everything combines well. Serve as a side dish along with roti or rice along with sambar or rasam.
