Bellam Thalikalu is offered as Naivedyam for Lord Ganesha on Ganesha Chaturthi Festival.
Ingredients:
Rice flour – 1 cup
Water – 1 ½ cups + 3 cups
Salt – a pinch
Jaggery – 1 cup
Shredded coconut – ½ cup
Cashew nuts – ¼ cup
Cardamom powder – ¼ teaspoon
Method:
Boil 1 ½ cups of water in a heavy-bottomed vessel. Once the water starts to boil vigorously, add rice flour and salt. Mix until there is no dry flour seen. Turn off the stove and let the dough cool down slightly. When the dough is still warm, knead to form a soft and lump-less dough. Make the dough into small marble-sized balls. With your palms, roll each ball into short, thick noodles. Then, dust the prepared noodle with dry flour. Once all the dough is prepared into short thick noodles, set them aside on a flour-dusted plate. In a pan, add a little oil, fry cashew nuts until brownish, and set aside. In a heavy-bottomed pan, add jaggery and 3 cups of water. Once the jaggery melts and the mixture starts to boil, add the prepared rice flour thalikalu / noodles into it. Add shredded coconut, fried cashew nuts, and cardamom powder. Mix gently and let it cook for a few minutes. Serve Bellam Thalikalu warm or after it cools down.
